Our Mandate
The South Africa-Nigeria Business Council was established by multinational companies in South Africa and Nigeria in 2005 primarily to assist companies in their expansion into Nigeria and to be a point of contact for Nigerians wishing to do business with and in South Africa. It is a non-profit organisation created for the promotion, facilitation and assistance of business engagement on the bilateral corridor between the two nations.
Its mandate, as identified in its Constitution, is to speak for South African companies doing business in Nigeria and Nigerian investors in South Africa honestly, fearlessly and with authority to help them do business with minimum risk.
The Chamber is managed by a small secretariat with oversight by a Board appointed from among its members.
What is the purpose of the SA-NBC?
- To be a voice for business in bilateral engagement between Africa’s two most important markets.
- To assist companies in both countries to understand the different operating environments, legal requirements and business culture.
- To provide mechanisms for business-to-business engagement under its umbrella.
- To provide a ‘safe’ for competitors to meet and share thoughts, experiences and ideas.
- To encourage the free movement of business, talent, goods and capital.
- To provide support and problem solving for visa and immigration issues.
- To provide advocacy on issues with the relevant governments and related agencies.
The Chamber delivers on its mandate through events, information and media platforms, accessing its wide range of contacts and leveraging relationships with companies, governments, diplomatic missions, business organisations and individuals.
The Chamber also plays a role behind the scenes to address the misperceptions among citizens about each other’s countries, working with diplomatic missions and government officials to iron out problems in the relationship.
